Overview
Post Void is a frantic and fast shooter. It feels like it is the love child of Doom and Hotline Miami. I found myself saying just one more time many times.

Gameplay
This game feels heavily influenced by the classic Doom with a few extra shots of adrenaline thrown in. You get dropped into a map with two items. You have an idol in your left hand to represent your life and a weapon in your right hand. You run around using WASD, shoot with the mouse, jump with the space key, and slide with the shift key.
Your goal in each stage is to make it to the end before the substance in your idol runs out. The trick is, the idol in your hand is consistently draining. The only way to refill it is to kill enemies that are in your path. There are various enemies, and at each new stage, more types are thrown at you to increase the difficulty. The levels also get more labyrinthine as you progress. You are rewarded at the end of each stage with a choice out of three randomly generated powerups. They can be different weapons, more health, or various passive perks to assist you.
There are eleven stages to overcome, and the moment you fail, it is back to the start you go. This is also an excellent score chaser since you will be scored on various stats during your runs, including headshots, damage taken, accuracy, and time.
Story and Dialogue
There is a short and artistic introduction of the lore after the tutorial. It is set up just as jarring and discordant as a David Lynch film.
Graphical Design
The graphics in Post Void that you will often be whizzing past are similar to an acid trip fever dream. Even though you will be speeding through a lot of the game, you will notice a clashing color palette with distorted objects spread throughout the world. The downfall with the color design is how easy it is to get turned around. The color textures are bright, discordant, and blaring; but still, meld together. This can easily make or break your run. Enemies are designed distinctly and are just as bizarrely mashed together as the color palette.
The big thing to note about the graphic design is the flashing involved. There is some minor flashing while shooting, but it really hits you if you die. Once you are killed, your eyes get gifted a barrage of flashes while several different colored images change incoherently. Luckily there is a feature to prevent this from happening if you desire.
Music & Sound
The music is fast and adrenaline pumping. There is only one song present in the game, but it fits really well. You can mute the music and play your own. There is an achievement in the game that encourages you to make your way to a particular playlist to accompany the game.
The rest of the sound design is pretty good. There is a lot of chaotic shooting from enemies and yourself. The sound of enemies getting hit is designed well, but it is all the more satisfying if you manage to pull off a headshot. The only sound I did not enjoy was the high pitch noise that trip mines make. You will run past a lot of these and expect that piercing mine preparation noise every time.
Options and Accessibility
The game can run on most standard builds. Depending on your powerup builds, the frame rate can drop in some places. If you use an uzi with bullets bouncing off walls and are shooting continually, you may notice some slow down. This is more apparent in later stages, where there are more twists and turns in the level.
Some graphical options can be toggled. These include; Grain filter, vsync, and accessibility mode. The accessibility mode limits the flashing images. Other than that, the standard needed options such as audio sliders and sensitivity are present.
My overall experience
I have come back to this game several times to try to beat it. Every time I take a dive in, I get a bit better at handling the speed and chaos the game has going for it. There is a bit of a learning curve with this one. It throws you into the fire so quickly that you have to take a few runs to really get your bearings.
I have put almost three and a half hours into the game trying to complete it. Some will find it easier to run through, but I am still having a blast trying to get better at the game. There is a leaderboard that encourages speed runs and perfect runs.
(っ◔◡◔)っ ♥ pros ♥
+Great replay value
*Only 11 stages, but you will find yourself trying to get a higher score or picking it up just one more time for progression.
+Trippy
*There is so much going on with the discordant themes, colors, and accelerated action. It can be oddly hypnotic running through the chaos.
+Leaderboards with a detailed score system
*Since the scoring system weighs your gameplay on more than one factor, it is an excellent title for score chasers.
(っ>▬<)っ x cons x
-Minor frame rate issues in fast action
*Despite being a retro-style game, a lot of bullets can cause some minor frame rate drops, especially near the end game.
-Some textures meld together
*It is easy to get turned around, potentially ending your good run.
Wrap Up
For the price, this is a must-have for people who enjoy frantic fast past shooters. It is jarring and difficult. It forces your hand at getting better at the game as there are no difficulty options.
Overall score 9/10
